August 15, 1932 - March 5, 2017

Visitation will be from 3-8pm Tuesday, March 7 at McAdams Mortuary. Funeral will be 11am, Wednesday, March 8 at the funeral home. Bro. Jimmy Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Paoli Community Cemetery. Paoli VFW memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 7pm, provided by the Orleans American Legion Post 69. Memorial contributions may be made to the Orange County Humane Society or the VFW Post 8302 for graveyard flags. 

He is survived by: wife- Ruth Andis of Paoli; daughters- Pamela Jones of Bedford, Roslyn Melvin of Bedford, Debbie Wilson of Paoli, Lynn Chowning of Salem, Sherri Patton of Paoli & Sandy Padgett of Paoli; sisters- Gladys Blake of Springville, Martha Howard of Paoli & Mary Lou Thompson of Oolitic; 17 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by: parents- Opher James & Rosa Belle (McFarland) Andis; brothers- Ray, Roy, Curt, William, Earl, & John Andis; son Randy Jesse.

Jesse Alton Andis was a veteran of the US Army Korean War. He served 2 terms as 9th District commander and nearly 10 years as post commander. He served in Army Company C 4th Platoon. He received 2 Purple Hearts, Korean Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge & four Bronze Stars. He joined the Army in 1950 and was sent to the front lines in April of 1952, where he stayed until he was hit by enemy fire. He spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in an Army hospital in Osaka, Japan. He was discharged at the rand of staff Sargent in November of 1953.  Of the 100 years of the VFW, Jesse Andis is the only district 9 Commander to be appointed the Distinguished Hoosier Award given by Indiana Govenor, Frank O'bannon. He was retired from Star Stone Company of Bloomington. He was a member of Syria Christian Church & Paoli Life Member of VFW Post 8302. He also was the coordinator for the DAV van transport services, and logged 25,000 volunteer hours.
