Obituary - John Edward Jones
John Edward Jones "jonesy" was born on November 27, 1951, in Columbia, Missouri, and passed away at his home on December 1st. His parents were Rosa K. and John T. Jones. He graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia and began working for GTE in Marengo, Iowa, in 1972. He married Jane Schwartz on February 15, 1975, in Williamsburg, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Katy Ann and John Deacon.
John worked in the telephone industry, most recently at Sprint, for his career in a variety of capacities. Over the years John enjoyed hunting, fishing, re-building and riding motorcycles, barbequing with his Smoke Rangers Team, Scouting with his son and spending time at Camp Naish and Camp Bartle, training for and participating in field trials with his dog, Mick, and spending time with his family and friends. Much joy was brought to his life by his grandchildren, Caden and Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; two children: Katy (Jason) McKinney of Rogers, AR and John Deacon, Lawrence, KS; 2 grandchildren: Caden and Taylor; his mother, Rosa Jones; 2 brothers: Floyd Strader and Chuck (Nancy) Jones, Columbia; and 3 sisters: Pat Strader, Lakewood, CO, Mary Hill, Huntsville, MO and Janice (Mike) Wasinger, Denver, CO. John was preceded in death by his father, John T. Jones and his brother, Robert Strader.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, with Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6, at Christ Lutheran Church, 11720 Nieman Road. Burial in Rock Creek Cemetery, Wellsville, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be directed to Boy Scouts of America, Heart of America Council, 10210 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
