John D. Poole, 76, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 9:07 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

Mr. Poole was born on August 16, 1933 in Jennings County, Indiana the son of Floyd Taylor Poole and Nettie Viola Parker Poole Davis. He married Shirley Ann "Duck" Rockey on June 1, 1968 in Vernon, Indiana. She preceded him in death on December 8, 2009.

Mr. Poole retired from the North Vernon Water plant in North Vernon, Indiana and had previously worked for 13 years leaving in 1985 from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana and also had worked for Arvin's Industries in North Vernon, Indiana. He was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County, Indiana. He attended North Vernon High School. He served in the U.S. Army being stationed in Missouri and New York. His enjoyments were riding motorcycles, hunting, and fishing, going to yard sales, working on cars, mowers and appliances.

Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Gillis of North Vernon, Indiana; three brothers, William E. Poole and his wife Barbara, Frank R. Poole and his wife Sarah all of North Vernon, Indiana and Charles E. Poole and his wife Nona of Westport, Indiana; one sister, Evelyn Clark and her husband Roger of Seymour, Indiana; two grandsons, John and Jake Gillis of North Vernon, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Brian Anderson officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F. W. providing Military gravesite rites.
