March 27, 1927 - Dec. 14, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Joy Alice Lowder was born on March 27, 1927 in Tecumseh, OK. She graduated from Wanette and moved to OKC in 1944, where she graduated from business school. She worked for Armour and Co from 1944-1959 and later at Buchanans and House of Flowers.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Cecil Lowder, in 1988. She was also preceded by her parents, Leslie and Laura Thompson; and brothers, Don and Marion Thompson. She had three children, Jerre and wife Kathy Lowder, Joyce Green, Janice and husband David Davis; five grandchildren, Sandy Green, Christina and Leslie Davis, Tess White, Cameron Wilkins Lowder; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Phoenix.

Joy was a 24-year survivor of breast cancer. She volunteered 24 years at Integris Southwest Mammography Center. She loved to tatt, knit, paint and write. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting and often provided baby hats to Integris facilities. She also provided caps to the military for the Hugs program as well as lap blankets for the cancer patients taking treatment. Joy was a member of Grace Assembly/Southpointe for over 30 years. She loved her friends from Gabfest, Breast Cancer Support Group, and Spouse Grief Support. She loved watermelon and ice cream, especially from Capitol Hill ice cream parlor. She took great pride that a girl from Pottawatomie County was able to travel form Canada to the Bahamas, from California to New York.

Her skills as a mother were unmatched. Her love of God, country and family were unending. Her name reflected her life. She was truly a joy. Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, at Southpointe Church.
