VIRGINIA BEACH - Juanita (Nita) Smyth Smiley passed away on July 13, 2014. She was born in Richmond, VA in 1932 and lived her life in Newport News, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach, VA.

Nita was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Judge N. Prentis Smiley, Jr.

She is survived by children Colette Kosler of Newport News, VA, George D. DeShazor, Jr. (Kathy) of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael DeShazor (Kim) of Mt. Airy, MD and William DeShazor of Belton, SC, and several grandchildren.

Nita was very proud of her career as a registered nurse, and in later years, a realtor. She was passionate about gardening, cooking, antiques, and traveling. She enjoyed beach vacations. Nita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

The family wishes to acknowledge the steadfast love and support of long time friends Randy Smith and Ed Chambers. We are also grateful to the staff members of The Memory Center, the Life Guidance Unit of Atria Senior Living and Heartland Hospice in Virginia Beach for their compassionate and professional care over the past 5 years.

A private memorial service was conducted by Pastor Randy Garner on Thursday, July 17, followed by burial at Williamsburg Memorial Park. Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg handled the arrangements. Published in Daily Press on July 21, 2014
