Obituary - Lenore I (Young) Baker

Former Yacolt Elementary School teacher Lenore I. "Dick" Baker, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, in Battle Ground. 

Mrs. Baker was born Oct. 17, 1910, in Jamestown, N.D., and had lived in Clark County for 37 years. She was a graduate of Kelso High School and Bellingham Normal School. 

She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and held many offices. She loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, swimming, boating and water-skiing. She was and avid reader and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and the world. 

Her husband, William I. "Bill" Baker preceded her in death in 1985. 

Survivors include one son, Michael of Amboy; two daughters, Gayle Sawyer of Amboy and Jan Ferro of Carson City, Nev.; one brother, Luvern Young of Kelso; three sisters, Deloise Frost of Vancouver, Lavonne Kuhn of La Pine, Ore. and Flaurine Beckius of Orinda, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

At her request there will be no service. The body will be cremated. Layne's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Northwest National Bank, P.O. Box 168, Yacolt, WA 98675, in memory of Lenore I. "Dick" Baker. The fund will be used to purchase library books and materials for the Yacolt Elementary School Library.
