LETTIS ANDERSON, 79, ST. MARIES BUSINESSWOMAN

DEARY Lettis Ann Anderson, a former long-time St. Maries resident, died at her home here Saturday from causes related to cancer. She was 79. 

She owned and operated Anderson Wrecking near St. Maries with her husband, William Harrison Anderson, for many years. She assisted with the business as a bookkeeper.
 

She was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Florence, Mont., the daughter of George W. and Martha Burton Shaffer. She grew up and attended schools in Florence, graduating as valedictorian of the Florence-Carlton High School in 1930.
 

Following graduation she attended college in Missoula, and later business college in Spokane.
 

She married William Harrison Anderson in Spokane on July 17, 1933. The couple lived in Washington and Idaho before moving to St. Maries in 1938. He died in 1979.
 

She moved to Deary in 1980, where she lived with her daughter, Edna Weatherford. She was a former member of the St. Maries Eagles Lodge and enjoyed fishing.
 

Surviving family members are two daughters, Edna Weatherford of Deary and L. Marie McGary of College Place, Wash.; and two sons, Gilbert Anderson of Craig, Alaska, and John Anderson of Seattle.
 

A son, Lee Anderson, was killed in a logging accident in 1985 in Alaska and she was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
 

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service has been held.
 

The family suggests memorials may be contributed to Hospice of the Palouse, PO Box 9461, Moscow.
 

Short Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
