Margaret "Peggy" Cannady Duckworth, 87, a longtime resident of Owensboro passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, in Frankfort.

She was born in Burns City, Ind., the oldest of three daughters to Calvin and Hildred Waggoner Cannady. She grew up in New Harmony, Ind., and graduated from New Harmony High School. She received a degree from Lockyear's Business College in Evansville in 1946.

She met and married John Lee Duckworth of Evansville in 1949 at Bethel Evangelical Church. Peggy and John raised two daughters, Gail Louise and Carolyn Sue in Evansville and then Owensboro. She worked and retired from Owensboro Senior High School in 1991.

John preceded her in death in August 2004.

Peggy loved life, her family, her neighborhood friends and her friends from work and church. Her love of literature led her to volunteer delivering books to the homebound for the Owensboro Public Library. She volunteered through Zion Church at The Daniel Pitino Shelter and taught Bible school at Zion. She enjoyed a daily long walk, travelling across the state or across the country, and was an avid reader, especially of a good mystery. She will be remembered for her lovely smile and laughter.

She is survived by her sisters, Louise Smiley (Elmo) of Michigan, and Gail Zink (Jerry) of North Carolina; her daughters, Gail Prewitt (Ben) of Kentucky and Sue Guier (David) of Texas; grandsons, Aaron and Daniel (Leslie) Guier of Texas, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Rosehill Cemetery, with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Zion United Church of Christ, at 625 Allen St., Owensboro, KY 42303.
