Obituary - Marvin Dale Harr

KINGSPORT - M. Dale “Poss” Harr, 79, Kingsport, went to his heavenly home early Wednesday morning, April 26, 2017, at his home following an extended illness. 

Dale was born in Sullivan County, where he had lived his entire life. He was a graduate of Blountville High School, class of ’57 where he played basketball and played for the TN State Championship. He retired from Holston Defense Corporation. Dale was a member of Cassidy United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Optimist Club where he served as a coach and director of the basketball league. Dale loved to raise fox hounds and run them with his friends. He also was an avid gardener. Dale was an exemplary father and grandfather, always sharing his faith and great sense of humor with those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl C. and Cynthia Ella Harr, and two brothers, Clarence Harr and Jerry Harr.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia R. Harr, of the home; daughters, Mrs. Julia Johnson and husband, David R. of Kingsport, and Mrs. Tammy Wininger and husband, Mark of Blountville; son, Timothy Dale Harr and wife, Angelia of Cherryville, NC; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Winegar, Sue Wagner, and Ann Mays, all of Blountville; brothers, Willard Harr of Centerville, MD, Herman Harr of Blountville, and Wayne Harr of Blountville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Cassidy United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm with Rev. Tom Hancock officiating.

Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.
