NATIVE OF CARTERVILLE SUCCUMBS IN TEXAS
Picher, OK., Feb. 26 - Melvin Nelson Smith, 48 yers old, died Wednesday night at his home in Greenville, Tex., from a heart ailment.
Born March 1, 1905, in Carterville, MO., Mr. Smith had been a resident of Commerce before moving to Greenville several years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tulsa.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Myrtle Smith; a daughter Mrs. Wynema Smith of Grove, Okla., his mother, Mrs. Laura Smith of Commerce; two brothers, Adolph Smith of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and O. L. (Mutt) Smith of Olathe, Kan.; four sisters, Mrs. Marcelle Johnson of Los Angeles, Mrs. Alberta Cartwright of Coffeyville, Mrs. V(F)ontella Abrams, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Opal James of Kansas City, Kan. and a grandaughter.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Picher First Baptist church with the Rev. C. E. Bergen officiating. Burial will be in Carterville cemetery, under the direction of the Thomas funeral home. Pallbearers will be Boone Dodson, Richard Dodson, Riley Saffel, Charley Garner, Roy Rutherford and Grover Ferguson.
