Obituary - Mildred Ann (Luber) Cox

Mildred A. "Milly" Cox, age 91 of Godfrey, IL, died at 10:52 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at St. Anthony Health Center in Alton, IL. She was born in Pocahontas, IL, October 31, 1921, the daughter of George H. and Alvina M. (Frey) Luber.

Mildred grew up in the Pocahontas/Highland area. She worked at Artex in Highland; was a waitress at several restaurants in town and a cook/housekeeper for St. Paul's rectory for over 20 years. In December of 2011, she moved to St. Clare's Villa in Alton. 
She enjoyed walking and was a long time quilter at St. Paul Church. Her main interest was her family. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan.

She was the Valedictorian of her 8th grade class at Immaculate Conception School in Pierron. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post #5694 and Tuesday Quilters of St. Paul. 

Survivors include six daughters: Virginia I. "Jinx" Ragland of Hazelwood, MO, Donna M. (Tom) Farmer of Las Cruces, NM, Gail A. (Richard "Rick") Parker of Glen Carbon, IL, Linda J. (Jim) Molenda of South Bend, IN, Monica R. (Sig. Other Jesse Ocumpaugh) Cox of Cottage Grove, OR, and Lois C. Mandrell of Godfrey, IL; two sons, Michael J. (Verlyn) Cox of Edwardsville, IL and Tim R. (Bob Brown) Cox of Seattle, WA; two brothers, Kenneth (Sandy) Luber of Troy, MO, and George M. (Susan) Luber, Jr. of Pocahontas, IL; 20 grandchildren: Yolanda Akano, Jacinta Douma, Charles Gray, Angie (Therron) Joseph, Jane Gray, Kevin Wellen, Amy DeMenezes, Steven (Bonnie Jean) Farmer, Ronald Smithers, Jr., Matthew (Darlene) Smithers, Aaron Smithers, Donovan Smithers, Christopher Parker, Chad Parker, Jared Parker, Audrey Parker, Nicole (Jesse) Bugger, Ashley Cox, Mark Massa, and Ryan Mandrell; and 24 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Geogre H. Luber and Alvina M. Luber; her husband, John S. Cox; six brothers: Herbert A. Luber, Raymond A. Luber, Jerome P. "Jerry" Luber, Omer "Jim" Luber, Paul Luber and Ivan Luber; one sister, Lauretta H. Kantner; and two grandchildren, Scott Wellen and Eden Parker. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Funeral mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March18, 2013 at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland with Rev. Fr. Charles A. Edwards officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Highland. 

Memorials are suggested to St. Clare's Villa, Alton, IL; St. Anthony's Hospital, Alton, IL; or St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL.
