Millis Henry Bud Oakes

Millis Henry (Bud) Oakes died suddenly and peacefully at home early Saturday morning, December 1, 2012. He was born May 8, 1928 in San Bernardino, CA to Millis Arvine Oakes and Irene Beeson. He grew up in Colton, CA with his brother, Donald Kenneth Oakes, and sisters Constance May Oakes Schneider, and Marjorie Oakes Bakker, all of whom are deceased.

Bud graduated from Colton High School. After serving in the Air Force, he graduated from UC Berkley with an MA in Geology. Bud accepted a job with Union Oil and worked in their offices in CA and then in Cut Bank, MT and Casper WY. He then took a position with Atlantic Richfield in Corpus Christi, TX, Jakarta, Indonesia and Lafayette, LA before moving to Houston with Memorial Exploration. After retiring, they moved to Canyon Lake, TX.

Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara and children Millis Jeffrey Oakes, wife Kelly Prince, Grandchildren Millis Zachary and Aubrey Caroline, Stephen William Oakes, wife Cheryl Jo Pritchard, and Grandchildren Emily Taylor, Joan Alexandra and Stephen Wesley, Elizabeth Ann Cline and husband, William A. Cline, Benjamin Jacob Oakes and wife, Karen Sherman and Matthew David-Paul Oakes.

A memorial Mass is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday December 12, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Canyon Lake, TX. Interment will be held later the same day at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX at 1:45 P.M. Please call Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home at (830)625-3434 to confirm these times.


In lieu of flowers the family ask Memorials be sent to Mid-Texas Symphony, Tye Preston Library, or St. Thomas the Apostle at Canyon Lake.
