Nell Cunningham Payne
Mrs. Nell Cunningham Payne, 87, of 211 Milton Brown Heirs Road, formerly of Bamboo Road, died Tuesday morning, April 10, 2007, at Glenbridge Health Care.
She was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Washington County, Va., a daughter of the late Arthur and Ida Hutton Cunningham.
Mrs. Payne was a retired inspector for Shadowline, Inc. and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, John Payne and wife, Phyllis, of Boone; two daughters, Jeanette Edmisten and husband, William, of Vilas, and Bonnie Jean Blinson and husband, David Sherrill of Glen Alpine; four sisters, Flora Bott and Lucille McCroskey, both of Abingdon, Va.; Ruth Walker of Suffolk, Va., and Ollie Fraley of Abingdon; two brothers, Warren Cunningham of Amherst, Va. and James Cunningham of Bristol, Va.; and two special friends and caregivers, Emily Main and Yvonne Brown, both of Boone. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Milton Payne; two brothers, Henry and Ray Cunningham; and one sister, Rittie Miller.
Services were conducted Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2007, at 2 p.m., at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Pennell, the Rev. Bud Russell, and the Rev. Kanoot Midkiff officiating. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
