Oda Ward Catron passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Baptist Regional
Medical Center with family by her side.
She was born May 27, 1913, in a three-room house on Mauney Creek and on the
Rockholds Deering Road in Whitley County. She was the daughter of the late
Fraisure Qunicy and Stella Alsip Ward.
She taught school in the Whitley County School System for more than 30
years. Her first teaching job was at Bobtown School, a one-room elementary
school. The next year she taught at Holly Marsh, a larger one-room, then the
Section Lot, then Bacon Creek, a two-room, next back to Bobtown then to Oak
Grove consolidation for seventh grade for 13 years and fifth grade for 10
years.
After retirement from the Whitley County School System, she was involved in
the Homemakers Club where she enjoyed making crafts, piecing quilts and
crocheting afghans for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her latter years she was convalescing at home with her daughter,
Margaret, by her side.
She was a lifelong member of the former Mauney’s Chapel Christian Church
where she was an Adult Sunday School Bible Teacher for many years in Whitley
County and last attended First Christian Church of Corbin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Samuel Catron, her daughter,
Janet Rousey, two sisters Florine Ward Hamblin and Opal Ward Morgenroth.
She is survived by her children, Jerrold Wayne (Betty) Catron, of London;
Joe Larry Catron, of Brookpark, Ohio, (children) Kelly and Kristy; Johnny
Darrell (Sue) Catron, of Brunswick, Ohio, (children)John, Latrenda, Malinda,
Abbie and Brittany; Margaret Ann (James) McDaniel, of Corbin; son-in-law,
Les Rousey, Hustonville, and son Scott (Audrey) Rousey; several
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and
many special friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2012, in the Hart
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Mitchell, Rev. James Hodge, and
Glenn Ketron, brother-in-law. Burial will be in the Cornith Cemetery in
Corbin.
The pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at the
Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master St.. in Corbin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First
Christian Church, (CWF), 100 S. KY Ave.. Corbin, KY 40701.
The Hart Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
