— Raymond Boomgarden, son of Claus and Alma (Brown) Boomgarden, was born on July 10, 1930, in Rock County, Minnesota. He died on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia. He was 80 years old.

Raymond moved to Madelia in 1942 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950. He graduated from Aero Tech Institute in Oakland, CA, in June of 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict until 1953. He was later discharged from the Reserves in 1957. He married Betty Greeley on July 12, 1951. They lived in Amboy where he worked for Coulter Implement and later managed a mink ranch near Amboy. In 1967 they moved to Madelia where he worked for periods for Howard Dysthe and Kenny Maus, Lee Implement, raised feeder pigs for several years and finally worked 11 years for his sons (which he really enjoyed) at IFS. He was a member of The Madelia Church of Christ where he was an Elder and served on the church board many years. He was also a member of the Madelia American Legion Post # 19. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Betty; 3 children, Marlyse (Wayne) Oswald of Winnebago, Kenneth (Judy) and Duane (Luanne), all of Madelia; 3 grandsons, Brian, Michael and Nathan Boomgarden; 2 granddaughters, Chastity Oswald and Rachel Boomgarden; 2 great-grandsons, Preston and Allen; 1 brother Ron (Marilyn) of Madelia; 2 brothers-in-law, Melvin (Darleen) Greeley of Madelia and Jim (Velma) Greeley of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Ben, in June of 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Madelia Church of Christ. Burial with military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday (TODAY) from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., all at the church. The Pilgrim Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
