Richard Glenn “Dick” Shutters, age 77, of Ocala, FL, passed away on 5 September 2016.

He was born in Beech Grove, Indiana, on February 12, 1939. Dick was raised in Greensburg, Indiana. He was married to and survived by Ruth D. Shutters for 56 years. He had lived in Ocala since 1969.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Richard ‘Rick’ Shutters, Peter G. Shutters, and Patrick K. Shutters; and his siblings, Michael Shutters, Annette Sweat, Linda Williams, Jerry Shutters, Terry Shutters, Phillip Shutters, and Kevin Shutters; as well as twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil W. Shutters and Florence ‘Lucy’ Shutters; his daughter, Kimberly Ann Shutters; his brothers, Patrick Shutters and Thomas Shutters.

He had 42 years of experience in the construction of roadways, stormwater facilities, water and sewer utilities and public works. He was a Certified Stormwater Management System Inspector, National Utility Contractors Association Certified, and a Certified Underground Utility Contractor. He owned and operated an underground utility company in the 1960s in South Florida and even enjoyed a short stint as a Cowboy for Live Oak Plantation.

He enjoyed baseball, football, and softball, especially when his children or grandchildren were playing. He coached for several years in the Marion County Independent Football League. He loved animals and had a ‘whisperer’ way about him with horses and dogs. He served with the U.S. Army from May 1958 through April 1961.
