Richard Lee AndisRichard Lee Andis, 84 years of age, a naval submarine veteran and El Paso resident for 47 years, slipped his moorings of mortality and sailed into the peaceful waters of eternity.

Preceded in death by his mother- Lessie Lyle Andis, father: Ira T. Andis, Sisters: Viva Comrack, Odean Holcomb, brother: Samuel Andis.

He was born on October 19th 1931 and raised in the farm town of Shoals, Indiana. Richard Lee Andis was the 7th of eight children born to Ira T. and Lessie L. Andis.

Upon graduating high school, He immediately enlisted the US Navy. He served over 20 years in the US Navy, much of it in the submarine. He was a veteran of both Korean and Vietnam conflicts. His service culminated in service as the Chief of the Boat (COB) of the USS Tiru (SS-416).

 After retiring, he brought his family to El Paso, Texas and worked in the field of air conditioning. Later, Mr. Andis would obtain his commercial pilot’s license and operate a private charter service. “Rest you oars sailor”.

He is survived by his loving wife Cristina Margarita Andis of almost 62 years, sons: Richard I. Andis and wife, Joy (Poulsbo, WA), Daniel E. Andis and wife, Kathi (Arlington, TX), brothers: Gene Andis (Vincennes, Indiana), Kenneth Andis (Knoxville, Tennessee), sister: Ruth Mitchell (Florida), Sara Barnes (California), 5 Grandchildren: Harley Andis, Patrick Andis and wife, Kasey , Danielle Adams and husband, Chad, Justin Andis, Emily Andis, and 2 great grandchildren: Kathleen Grace Adams and Harley Cole Andis, and many nieces, nephews and other family members that adored him.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina. Graveside Service at 10:30 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
