Obituary - Rodney Clair Bright

Rodney C. Bright, 80, passed away at home on Sunday, February 15th, from prostate cancer. Born in Salem, Oregon, to Mildred and Russell Bright, he graduated from Salem High School in 1946, and the University of Oregon in 1950.

He served in the Korean War from 1950-1952, and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany. Rod met Dorothy Jean Klinefelter of Salem at the Statesman Publishing Company. They married October 10, 1953, and had two sons, Larry Dean and Alan Russell. He was an executive with K/P Companies in Salem for 20 years, was transferred to San Diego with his family in 1970, and later worked in sales with Impressions West. He was an avid reader and writer. Everyone that knew him talked of his patience, sense of humor, his creative mind and teaching.

Rod is survived by his wife of 55 years; son Larry, granddaughter Raina Ann and great-grandson Brighton of Salt Lake City, UT; son Alan and daughter in law, Anne Simpson of Corte Madera, CA; sister-in-law Margaret, nephew Jim and niece Judy of Portland, OR; sister-in-law Janet Ann McGriff of La Mesa, niece Cynthia McGriff of Pleasanton, CA, and brother-in-law Dick Klinefelter and wife Joy of Salem, OR.
