Gross, Sanford A. LARCHMONT, N.Y.

Lt. Sanford "Sandy" A. Gross, 85, Larchmont, N.Y., died December 14, 2009 in Delmar, N.Y.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y. on November 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Alexander and Frances (Wassar) Gross.

He is survived by his daughters, Wendy Vega and Mary Ibbetson; son-in-law, Joseph Ibbetson; granddaughters, Nicole and Cassandra Ibbetson; nephew, Allen Goldberg; and many grandpets, Mia, Belle, Jasmine, Minnie, Petie and Violet. He was also predeceased by his sister, Muriel. Sandy was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

After discharge from the Navy, he graduated from Dartmouth College where he made so many dear friends. Sandy worked for many years in the advertising industry in NYC. He was always writing poems and jingles. Any day at the beach, no matter what season, was a good day in Sandy's book! His second home was the "grassy knoll" at Larchmont Manor Beach. He took great pride in being the first one in the water each season, including this past summer, and could be found bundled up in a spot out of the wind at Rye Beach in the middle of winter.

Sandy's family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Good Samaritan Lutheran Nursing Home. They brought comfort and peace during a difficult journey. Calling hours Friday 2-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. with funeral to follow at 8 p.m. at John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY 10538; (914) 834-0144.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandy's name to your favorite charity.
