STELLA MAE SMITH LOWE
(1920 - November 19, 2012)
Abingdon, Virginia November 19, 2012 Stella Mae Smith Lowe, 93, passed away
Monday, November 19, 2012.
She was raised in Jonesville, Virginia. There she met her beloved husband,
Homer J., of Cripple Creek, when he worked there with the Civilian
Conservation Corps.
They were married in 1938 and moved and worked together in the Piggly Wiggly
in Vansant, Virginia, and then made their homes as they followed Homer's
career as a People's Life agent and then district manager, in Norton,
Roanoke, Fredericksburg and Wise.
Stella was a dedicated mother and homemaker and was an active and involved
member of the United Methodist Women and Missionary Society in each of her
communities. After Homer's death in 1987, she moved to Abingdon, where she
was active in grand parenting in the Methodist Church and in the Washington
County Republican Party.
She is survived by two sons, A. Jackson Lowe of Southern Shores, NC and his
wife, Sally, and C. Randall Lowe of Abingdon, and his wife, Elizabeth, and
by two grandsons, Matthew R. Lowe and his wife, Brittany, and Steven J.
Lowe, all of Abingdon.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm on November 20, 2012
at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. An Order of Eastern Star Service
will be conducted at 6:45 pm. and the funeral service will be held at 7:00
pm at the church that will be followed by a reception in the fellowship
hall, where guests may also greet the family. Graveside services and burial
will be at Woodward cemetery in Jonesville, at 11:00 am on Wednesday,
November 21, 2012. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
