CHESTER, Va. Trula Sproles Brummett, 96, of 4418 Village Creek Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at her residence.
Born Aug. 16, 1912, in Mendota, Va., she was the daughter of the late James C. Sproles and Sarah Ellen Sproles. She was married for 75 years to Vernon Martin Brummett, who predeceased her. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Betty Faye Houston and Shelby Ann Brummett.

Mrs. Brummett lived most of her life in Danville, Va., before moving to Chester four years ago. She had been in declining health for the past four years. She retired from Dan River Inc., with 24 years of service. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, quilting and crafting. She was a frequent recipient of the Danville Yard of the Month Award. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris B. Harrison Hobart and husband Joe Hobart of Chester and Lou-Ella B. Cline and husband Charles R. Cline of Enon, Va. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Schoolfield Cemetery Danville. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, Jan. 27, 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home.
