 ABINGDON - Trula Virginia Counts, age 100, passed away at Westhaven Retirement Home in Abingdon, on June 18, 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley H. Fleenor, former sheriff of Washington County, and Eliza Dickson Fleenor; her husband, Earl Cecil Counts; an infant son; three stepchildren, E.C. Counts Jr., Evelyn C. Jessee and Nell C. Herndon; one sister and four brothers.
Mrs. Counts is survived by four sons, Tom A. Counts and wife Connie of Abingdon, Ted Counts and wife Pat of Forest, Va., Danny Counts and wife Betty of Marion and David Counts and wife Becky of Abingdon; one daughter, Bonnie Scyphers and husband Evans of Marion; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a stepson-in-law, Roland Herndon of Abingdon; a stepdaughter-in-law, Dorothy Counts of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at 8 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main St., Abingdon, with Pastor Jerry Eggers and Pastor Kenneth Widner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Family and friends will meet on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at The Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, located on the grounds of Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, for entombment. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Westhaven, to her special caregivers, Virgina Rhoten and Jean Wilson, and to Hospice of Southwest Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Valley View Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
