A graveside service for Willard O. Wales , 79, of Vacaville, was held on Sept. 22, 2003, in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Mr. Wales died Sept. 16, 2003, in his home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 21, 1923, in Inglewood, he resided in Vacaville for 26 years. In World War II, he was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and flew B-26 Maurader Bombers over Germany. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying. After retiring from civil service in Vallejo, he covered all lower 48 states and the Canadian Provinces that border the states accompanied by his wife, Ruth of more than 50 years. The RV was home away from home until he could no longer travel. Getting to reunions of the 432nd Bomber Squadron and the 17th Bomb Group, were at the top of the travel plans. He was a member of the American Legion Post 104 and NARFE Chapter 903, and several RV clubs.

Mr. Wales is survived by his wife, Ruth of Vacaville; stepdaughter, Judie Burtenshaw of Fairfield; stepson, Tom Hamilton Jr. of Oak Park, Mich.; sisters, Faye Crabtree, Hanna and Marie Schaffner of Vacaville; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; niece, Pamela Charron and husband, Mike, of Gilroy; nephews, Gary Crabtree and wife, Ruth of Vacaville, Bob and Ann Crabtree of San Jose and Randy and Ali Schaffnew of Grass Valley.

Arrangements were handled by Nadeau Family Funeral Home.
