Obituary - William Elmo Burriss

Home

Bill Burriss It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very special and wonderful man.
Bill Burriss was a friend to all, a gentleman, businessman, and veteran. He passed away November 8, 2017.

Bill was born October 1928 in San Luis Obispo to Faye and Elmo Burriss. He attended San Luis Obispo High School and was a proud U.S Army veteran. Following his Army service he worked as a banker before opening the Burriss Saddlery in downtown San Luis Obispo. The saddlery was in business for over 50 years. Everyone that entered the shop was treated as a friend. Bill and his dog Chester were for many of us the essence of small town hospitality.

He was an Honorary member of the San Luis Obispo Caballeros. Bill was a long time member of the San Luis Obispo Smallbore Association. He was an expert marksman participating in many championship contests throughout the state. He also made a priority of teaching many local youths the fundamentals of firearms safety.

He is survived by his 30 year, loving companion Carolyn Garver and her family. Any memorial tributes in his honor may be made to the San Luis Obispo Smallbore Association Incorporated or the ASPCA.
