William G. "Cotton" Mumpower

Just wanted to let our family and friends know that Dad left to go be with Mom in heaven Saturday, July 2, 2016. He missed her so much after 59 years of marriage, that we know he is happy again now, joining her (Barbara Hobbs Mumpower), as well as his parents, Gordon Bee and Dessie Booher Mumpower. Also welcoming him home to heaven were brothers, Everette and Earl Mumpower; and sister, Ermal Monteith. What a reunion they are having!

We children, Jeff Mumpower and wife, Sharon, Mike Mumpower and wife, Lisa, and Tracy Mumpower; grandchildren, Jeffry Mumpower and wife, Julie, Lindsey Mumpower, and Christian Mumpower; and great-grandchildren, Lucas and Logan Mumpower sure will miss him.

Mourning his loss with us are his sisters, Emma Poore, and Carolyn Wright; sisters-in-law, June Mumpower, and Marcia Robertson and husband, Allen, and several nieces and nephews join us in saying good-bye.

During his 85 years of life, Dad was a proud United States Marine, having served for over a year on the front lines in the Korean Conflict. After service and marriage, Dad got busy with a career in tool and die making for 38 years working for many companies, including Monroe and Electrolux. He retired in 1993, in order to take up full-time work in his hobbies, woodworking and gardening. As his children, friends and family, we all benefited from his many and varied talents, from abundant garden produce, to delectable cooking, to his ability with any kind of tool: Dad could fix, build or repair anything! Oh, we're going to miss him, but rejoice in his reunion with Mom.

We will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Victory Baptist Church, where he was a member. Committal service will be held at the Mountain View Chapel Mausoleum Thursday, July 7, 2016, 11 a.m. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Post #265. The family extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Charles Bolick and the ICU staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care of our dad. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Victory Baptist Church, 11101 Island Road, Bristol, VA 24202. The staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services, Kingsport, is honored to serve the family of William G. "Cotton" Mumpower.
