A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Sylvan Julian Hobbs, who died Jan. 10 of a stroke at age 60.

Mr. Hobbs was born Feb. 2, 1939, in Benhams, Va. He served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from Sulfolk Community College and State University of New York at Stony Brook, and did graduate work at Portland State University. He moved to Portland in about 1974 and was a self-employed computer consultant and a volunteer instructor and lecturer for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, sang and entertained for nursing homes and was a guide and lecturer for Fort Vancouver. In 1979, he married Olga Marie Miller.

Survivors include his wife; son, Benjamin, and father and stepmother, Sylvan J. Sr. and Phyllis, all of Portland; sister, Caroline Lass of Chuckey, Tenn.; brothers, Alfred of Bristol, Tenn., and Thomas of Blountville, Tenn.

Private interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the National Stroke Association, 96 Inverness Dr. East, Suite 1, Englewood, CO. 80112-5112.
