This was just two weeks before William married Julia Ann Andis. He paid $100.00 for the SE quarter of the NE quarter of Section 4, Twp 4N, Range 4W in Martin Co, IN (40 acres). 3) We have a copy of the recording of William and Julia's marriage. 4) William is noted in the book "History of Martin County". 5) We have a copy of the document where James and Elizabeth Andis sold land to William Bowman on 28 Apr 1854. He paid $300.00 for the East half of the NW quarter of the NW quarter of Section 4, Twp 4N, Range 4W in Martin Co, IN (120 acres). Dated the same day, we have a copy of the document where William and his wife Julia sold the following to James and Elizabeth Andis for $300.00: SE quarter of the NW quarter and the SE quarter of the NE quarter of section 10, and also the NW quarter of the NW quarter of section 11, all in Twp 4N, Range 4W (120 acres). 6) We have a copy of William's 1857 land patent. 7) William is mentioned in letters that his son (Pleasant Henry Bowman) sent home to the family, while serving in the Civil War. Please also read "The Legend of the Holly Tree". 8) William is mentioned in court records of his brother-in-law David Nail. 9) William's deposition was taken when his wife, Julia Ann, was attempting to acquire pension money after the death of their son, Pleasant H, in the Civil War. 10) "History of Daviess County" - Biography of Ira E Bowman (grandson of William): Article listed William as being an "earnest member of the Christian Church, being ever prominent in the good works of the community". 11) We have a copy of William's last will and testament. 12) We have copies of affidavits from doctors that treated William H Bowman during his medical struggles. 13) On 30 April 1896, the land that originally belonged to William and Julia was partitioned out to various family members. |
