| SIPES, Henry WC-217,275 January 30, 1936 Mr C H Hunter Dear Sirs: This is in reference to your letter of January 10, 1936, requesting information from the above described case file for a family record. You are advised that it does not appear that a claim for pension was ever filed by Henry Sipes. A report from the records of the War Department shows that Henry Sipes enlisted on July 6, 1861 at Indianapolis, as a private in Company F, 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery (21st Inf.) and was honorably discharged January 10, 1865, a corporal. Prisoner of War records show him captured at Brashear, Louisiana, June 23, 1863; paroled at Brashear City, Louisiana, between June 24 or 29, 1863. This soldier died January 19, 1883 at Salem, Marion County, Illinois, of lung trouble, superinduced by measles. Isabelle Sipes was pensioned as the widow of Henry Sipes. Isabell Webster and Henry Sipes were married on December 1, 1870 by Thomas C. Phipps at Martin City, Indiana. She had not been previously married. He had been previously married to Hannah A. Bowman in Martin County, Indiana. Hannah died in February 1870 in said county.
