Odie Smith
The graveside funeral will be held today, Dec. 4, for longtime Myrtle Creek resident Odie B. Smith of Eugene, who died Dec. 2 of age-related causes. She was 94.
Smith was born March 1, 1910, in Maple Springs, Ark., to Jessie and Ella McLaughlin Waters. She married Amos Smith on April 16, 1928, in Maple Springs. He died March 23, 1976.
A homemaker, she lived in Myrtle Creek for more than 50 years and in Eugene for about three years. She enjoyed babies and children, spending time with her family, reading, gardening and church activities. She belonged to the Myrtle Creek First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerell Smith of Roseburg, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Jean Stephens, died July 30, 2003, and a granddaughter, Ruth Ann Smith, also died previously.
Today's service will be held at 1 p.m. at Myrtle Creek Cemetery in Myrtle Creek. Major Family Funeral Home of Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
