Alvin Greene
Alvin Lee Greene BLUFF CITY, Tenn. Rev. Alvin Lee Greene, age 77, went home to
be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at his residence. He was born a son
to the late Claude L., Sr. and Virgie Broyles Greene. Alvin was a minister at
Sugar Grove Baptist Church before retiring in 2005 due to illness. He pastored
four churches in 42 years and was a faithful servant of the Lord. In addition to
pastoring, his occupations included Burlington Industries, Raytheon, Firestone,
and Albers Drug. Mr. Greene was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include: wife of 57 years, Helen Andis Greene; son, Gregory Greene and
wife Bonnie; daughter, Linda Greene Chapman and husband Ernie; grandchildren,
Jessicca Frye and husband Allen, Travis Chapman and wife Rachael, Cameron
Greene; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Paige and Lucas; sisters, Trudy Hammons
and Margie Wilson; brother, Sollie Greene; several nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be held on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Friendship Chapel
Baptist Church with Rev. Noah Stout and Rev. Travis Chapman officiating.
Committal services will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Crumley Cemetery. A
procession will be leaving Weaver Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers include: Cameron Greene, Travis Chapman, Danny Greene, Jimmy
Hammons, Allen Frye Jr, Allen Frye Sr., George O'Dell, and Elmer Stoltzfus.
Honorary pallbearers include: Pete Thompson, Jack Webb, Herbert Boyd, Sollie
Greene, Howard Greene, Jeff Jones, Phil Slate and Conley Cross. The family will
receive friends on Monday from 5-6:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missionary Fund at either Sugar
Grove Baptist Church, Benhams Road, Bristol Virginia; or Friendship Chapel
Baptist Church, 5109 Highway 421, Bristol, TN. Arrangements have been made with
Weaver Funeral Home.
