Bernard Curtis "Dutch" Pippin, 91, died Wednesday in a Billings retirement center of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Private burial will be in Mountview Cemetery. Michelotti-Sawyers is in charge of arrangements.
Dutch is survived by his wife, Marie daughter Ann Marie and Jerry Gibson of Palm Desert, Calif., and Bigfork daughter Kathy and Leonard Scott of Los Angeles son David and Sherrie of Great Falls six grandchildren, Suzanne Marie Colbo of Deer Lodge, Michael Williams of Hamilton, Lisa Marie Brydon of Lafayette, Calif., Mark Scott of Toluca Lake, Calif., Sarah Wells of Des Moines, Iowa, Brooke Summerfield of Lolo 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and an infant son, Tracy. "Dutch," as he was affectionately called by family and friends alike, was born to James Lee and Attie Lee Pippin in Sterling, Colo., on Dec. 15, 1910, the youngest of six children. He moved to Billings in 1917 and graduated from Billings High School in 1929, where he served as president of his class for three years. He was a member of the 1927 State Basketball Championship Team, as well as captain of both the basketball and football teams. On May 2, 1932, he married Marie Louise Hofmann, and earlier this year, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Dutch worked for Montana Power Co. for 46 years in its Billings operations and retired as Division Chief Accountant in 1964. Dutch was instrumental in starting the Little Guy Football Program in Billings and worked many years with the Little League Baseball Program. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and championship golfer in his younger years.
