Betty J. Ooton Best, 77, of Alhambra, formerly of Worden, died Monday, March 3, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton. 

She was born March 30, 1925, in Worden, the daughter of John and Maude Laughran Ooton. She married Loren H. Best in 1947 in Worden. Mrs. Best, a homemaker, was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and Tops Club of Worden.

Survivors: husband, Loren H.; a daughter, Cheryl L. (husband, C.W. "Bill") Ferguson of Staunton; five sisters, Joan (husband, Robert) Hasse of Worden, Carol Sue (husband, Russell) Jones of Staunton, Maureen O. Lee of Little Rock, Ark., Sharon Kay (husband, Richard) Simmons of Edwardsville and Pat (husband, Jim) Burgette of Maryville; and 10 nieces and nephews. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Williamson Funeral Home, Worden, the Rev. Jackie Havis officiating. Burial: Worden City Cemetery.
