Duane Witt - November 6, 2004
Mr. Witt was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Akron, Iowa, to Henry and Ella (Barinski) Witt. He was raised in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1941.
Serving in the Army during World War II, he was awarded a Purple Heart.
He had also lived in New Orleans and Oregon and moved to the Oakville area in 1947.
In 1970, he married Evelyn Joy Jelle. She died in 1977.
On Oct. 4, 1980, he married Roberta Holman. She survives him at the family home.
Mr. Witt worked for many years as a trouble shooter for Georgia Pacific and operated a shake mill in Oakville until 1982. He then worked for the Tenino School District until 1985.
He enjoyed fishing, doing crossword puzzles and reading his Bible daily. He was a deacon at the Assembly of God church in Oakville.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Larry Jelle of Anchorage, Alaska, Dave Jelle of Walla Walla, Don Jelle of Oakville, John Holman Jr. of Rochester and Robert Holman of Oakville; four daughters, Roxie Witt in Kansas, Jeanne Simmons of Oakville, Laurie Holman of Olympia and Mary Holman of Seattle; three brothers, Stan and Ken, both of Oakville, and Henry in Texas; a sister, Joyce Cooper of Roseburg, Ore.; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A sister, Judith Poynes, and four brothers, Lloyd, James, Ronald and Wesley, all died previously.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Assembly of God in Oakville.
Arrangements are by the Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Oakville Aid Unit.
