Homer L. Dixon
ABINGDON– Mr. Homer Lee Dixon, age 80, of Green Village, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Abingdon Manor.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1923, in Dante, Va., to the late Earnest Dixon and Annie Branson Dixon and was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Brummitt. Mr. Dixon was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation, after 40 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Geneva Dixon; two sons, Billy R. Dixon and wife Carol of Damascus and Leroy Dixon and wife Edna of Bristol Tennessee; a daughter, Ann Newman and husband Mickey of Abingdon; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, in the Farris Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Paul Price officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be Michael Roark, David Arnold, Derek Arnold, Tim Fogleman, Travis Dixon, Mickey Newman, Bobby Brummitt and Johnny Mowery. Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Reedy, Bobby Wilson, Bill Mink, Fred Sullivan and the retired employees of the Virginia Department of Transportation. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home or any time at the home of his daughter, Ann Newman.
