Matson Mary Francis, 80, a resident of San Diego since 1923, widow of Col. Thomas E. Matson of Johnson City, Tenn., died May 20, 1934. Born in Albion, the daughter of Judge and Mrs. H. S. Tousley, she was educated at Granville, Ohio and studied music and painting in Chicago. Her early years of marriage were spent in New York City where her husband worked as a civil engineer. Tennessee became her permanent home when her husband undertook the building of the East Tenn. and Western N. C. Railroad. In Tenn. They had four children, Joseph T., a mining engineer of Tererro, N.M., H. T. a mining engineer in Japan, Thomas E., who is developing an orchard near the former Matson home in Johnson City, Tenn., and Frances Moyer, now Mrs. Hardie of San Diego. She was a member of the John Sevier Chapter, DAR of Johnson City, Tenn. Private funeral services at Bonham Bros Mortuary on May 23, followed by cremation, the ashes to be sent to Albion.
