BROKEN BOW - Clifford Myron Whitney, 63, of rural Broken Bow, died March 24, 2005, at his home.
He was born May 30, 1941, to Burnard and Lucile Daily Whitney in Broken Bow. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at Homeward Trails Bible Camp in Mason City when he was 12. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1958 at the age of 16. After attending Kearney State College, he married Marilyn Sweet Jan. 9, 1960, in Winner, S.D. He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Rapid City, S.D., and St. Louis. In 1967, he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. After his divorce in 1969, he returned to the family farm.
On July 17, 1971, he married Darlene Vawser in Bassett. In addition to farming, he greatly enjoyed being a Gideon, piloting small airplanes, ham radio, Bible studies, friends and the church. A trip to Zambia, Africa, with the Gideons the summer of 2004 was a life-changing experience on which he gave numerous presentations.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; his parents; a daughter, Lori (Tim) Jensen of Grand Island; a son, Ron (Susan) Whitney of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Ruth, Ranae and Joel Jensen; nieces, Lynne Purcell, Robin Whitney, Becky Stadler and Nicole Castandea; and a nephew, Mark Whitney.
Memorials are suggested to the Berean Church, Gideons or Hospice.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Berean Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Larry DeMoss officiating. Burial will be in the Custer Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Iverson Memorial Chapel in Broken Bow.
