David E. Eaton

David Eugene Eaton, formerly of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, July 15th in Fort Myers, Florida. He was 80 years old but jokingly never admitted to be older than 39. He was born December 1, 1935 in Terre Haute, IN to Earl and Mabel Eaton.

David is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janice Utterback, and a brother Donnie Wayne Eaton.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Shirley G. Eaton of North Fort Myers, FL, his daughter, Ginger Moseman of Terre Haute, sons David P. Eaton of Greenville, NC, and Michael E. Eaton of Wabash, IN, and daughter Rhonda S. Cook of Easley, SC. Also his siblings, Charles Eaton of Washington, NC and sister, Judy Hall of Terre Haute, IN.

David was known simply as “Pa” by his 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Before retiring to Florida to spend 6 days a week on the golf course, he was a former Terre Haute Police Officer, Assistant Chief of Detectives and Chief of Police in West Terre Haute. He then worked as a carpenter for the Vigo County School Corporation helping to make our schools a little better.

That was “Big D,” protecting and serving others. He was a giving and loving man with a quiet, patient demeanor. He never knew a stranger and gave more of himself at times than he should.

Visitation will be held at DeBaun Funeral Home’s Springhill Chapel on Thursday, July 21st from 4pm to 8pm with funeral services at 10:30am on Friday, July 22, with burial at Highland Lawn Cemetery to follow.
