Obituary - Dr Ronnie Lee Edwards
October 25, 1943 – February 26, 2009
Dr. Ronnie Edwards, PhD., 65, of Bryan passed away on Thursday, February 26,
2009.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 27, at Hillier Funeral
Home.
Services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, February 28, at First Baptist Church
in Bryan. Burial will follow at College Station Cemetery.
Dr. Edwards was born on October 25, 1943, in Goree, Texas, to Virgil Lee and
Jimmie Edwards.
He received his Bachelor of Science in animal science, Master of Science in
reproductive physiology and his doctorate in animal breeding from Oklahoma
State University.
He was a professor and associate department head for the Department of
Animal Science at Texas A&M University. While at Texas A&M, he taught
numerous courses and served as an assistant and associate department head
since 1987.
While at Texas A&M University, he received the Outstanding Diplomacy Award
from the Kenya Students Association in 1985 for his work with international
students and the Vice Chancellor's Award in Excellence for student
Counseling and Relations in 1997, and was awarded the Advanced Degree
Graduate of Distinction Award from Oklahoma State University in 2004.
His professional memberships included the American Society of Animal
Science, Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta and Phi Kappa Phi.
Dr. Edwards was a lifelong Christian and was active as a deacon and a Sunday
school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his beloved wife of more than 38 years, Sigrid "Sig"
Edwards; son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Tera Edwards; daughter, Cathy
Edwards; brother and sister-in-law, J.V. and Tommy Edwards; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
