Obituary - Kenneth Ray Andis

Kenneth R. Andis, age 92, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

He was born on August 12, 1930, in Shoals, Indiana, the son of the late Ira T. and Lessie (English) Andis.

He was the sixth of eight children, Viva, Gene, Odean, Sam, Ruth, Dick, and Sara.

Ken was a graduate of Shoals High School and served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) where he was a radio operator. He was a Veteran of the Korean conflict. Ken, his three brothers, and sister Viva all served honorably in the United States Military. His father was a World War I Veteran. After leaving the military Ken worked at Edwards Air Force Base, in Palm-dale, California, as a senior defense missile instrument engineer. He transferred to Vanderberg Air Force Base, in Lompoc, California, where he worked on the Atlas Launch Crew. He then had a successful career in real estate. He was an active member of the Lions Clubs International and was the President of the Orcutt, California Chapter in 1972-73. Ken loved his family and his country.

Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia Andis of 66 years; one son, Jon Andis and wife Amy, of Scottsburg, Indiana; daughters, Anita Aguilar, of Santa Maria, California; and Vicki Tweed and husband Dave, of Knoxville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Adrianne Hamers, Stephen Aguilar and wife Jerdana, and Kristina Aguilar; five great-grandchildren, Harper Tweed, Dominic and Julian Aguilar, Marleigh and Monroe Hamers, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members who adored him.

A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4th, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
