Kila (Collins) Addington
KINGSPORT - Kila C. Addington, 87, died at 5 p.m. Saturday ( June 15, 2002 )
at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda A. and William Johnson,
after a long and courageous battle since 1967 with oral cancer and recently
diagnosed metastic lung cancer. She departed this earthly life for her
Heavenly home to be with Jesus, her best friend.
She was a loving wife for 61 years, a loving mother and grandmother. She
devoted her life to her family and friends.
Born in St. Charles , Va. , on September 30, 1914 , Kila was the daughter of
the late Matt and Estelle Collins. In her younger years, she was employed by
Taylor Brothers Theater Organization in Gate City and Weber City , Va.
She was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61
years, Wilford C. Addington; a daughter, Frances A. Quillen; three sisters,
Kate Bump, Ethel Dexter, Alice Sadler; and two half brothers, Walter Maness
and Charlie Farley.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Fostina A. Cornett and
husband Harold, Gate City, Va., Wanda A. Johnson and husband William "Dub",
Kingsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, James B. Addington and wife
Sylvia, Manassas, Va., and Thomas H. Addington and wife Rebecca, Powell,
Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, Janet Davidson, Harold Cornett Jr., David Cornett,
Jolene Lambert, Sherry Miller, Mitzi Hurd, James Addington Jr., Jennifer
Dunsmore, Dr. James Addington, Richard Quillen, Kevin Quillen and Shana
Peterson; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gate City Funeral
Home.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Gene Falin Memorial
Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Bean officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holston View
Cemetery , Weber City , Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be M.A. Lunsford, Maurice "Brownie" Price, Clive
Elliott, Tommy Fleenor, Ernie Barker, Wayne Sottoway, Ronnie Phillips and
Freddie Phillips.
The family will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in
procession to the cemetery.
