Loren H. Best, age 83, of Alhambra, died at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born on June 1, 1924, in New Douglas, the son of the late Hampton and Ora DuBree Best. He married Betty J. Ooton on Feb. 7, 1947, in Worden. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2003. He is survived by a daughter: Cheryl L., and husband C.W. "Bill", Ferguson of Staunton; two brothers: Clinton Best of Alhambra, and Lloyd Best of Edwardsville; special friend: Mary Ooton; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Best was employed for 35 years at Granite City Steel as a pipefitter. He was also a self-employed farmer. Visitation will be on Sunday, Feb. 24, at noon to 1 p.m., at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. Avis Richardson officiating. Interment will be at Worden City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Adopt-A-Pet in Benld. Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton is in charge of arrangements.
