Obituary - Ruby Mae (Shepard) Hedges
Ruby Hedges, age 88, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 in Parsons,
Kansas after being ill for several months. Ruby was born on Oct. 27, 1927 in
rural Earlton, the daughter of Albertus Blaine and Sarilada Pearle Price
Shepard.
She lived her childhood years in rural Earlton and the Thayer area. As an
adult she worked at the Adventure Lines in Parsons, KS and Lee Manufacturing
in Cherryvale, KS and also at other businesses. She was a member of the VFW
and American Legion Women’s Auxiliaries.
On Feb. 2, 1946 she married Gerald D. Sloan in Thayer, KS. He preceded her
in death on July 3, 1973. On Feb. 17, 1978, she married George Hedges in
Brownsville, TX. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2015.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands; 3 brothers, Virgil
Shepard, Harold Shepard and Claude Shepard and 2 sisters, Ava Gossett and
Alma Smith.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. at
Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel in Chanute, KS. Visitation will be
held prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be
at Earlton Cemetery.
