Sarah Ellen Akers, 80, of St. Joseph, passed away Wednesday, May 13, at a St. Joseph health care center. She was born Dec. 9, 1928 in St. Joseph, the daughter of Maggie and Otis Ebrecht. She graduated from Lafayette High School. Sarah married John Akers Dec. 4, 1948 in St. Joseph. She worked at Townsend & Wall as a salesperson in the ladies department. She enjoyed volunteering at Heartland Hospital in the flower shop and other various departments; she was also very involved with her church. She was a member of Heartland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Board and Hyde Valley United Methodist Church.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, John William Akers; her
parents; a brother, Wallace Ebrecht; and a sister, Mary Sims.
Survivors include a son, John Akers Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Omaha, Neb.;
a daughter, Sharon Rupp and her husband, David, of Lees Summit, Mo.; a
granddaughter, Crystal Rupp; nieces and nephews, Sherry and Bud Constable,
Ron and Carol Sims, Clint Sims, Jennifer Sims, and Connie Sims.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 17, at 3: p.m. at the
Rupp Funeral Home, Rev. Kathy Morrison officiating. The family
will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
Memorials are requested to the Hands of Hope Hospice.
