hirley Jo (Walter) Osborn
80, a lifetime resident of Danville, died Mar. 11, 2016 at her home.
Shirley was born Jan. 14, 1936 to Ralph and Carol (Hutton) Walter. She married John Thomas Osborn, July 1, 1956, he survives.
Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Danville High School. A 1957 graduate of
Earlham College and Reid Memorial Hospital, receiving a degree in Nursing.
Shirley later received a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from IUPUI.
She began her nursing career at the then, Hendricks County Hospital, served
as school nurse for the Brownsburg Community Schools, and for 15 years,
taught at the Pittsboro Elementary School, retiring in 1989. Shirley was a
Birth Right Quaker, a very active member of Danville Friends Church, serving
as a Sunday School teacher. A board of Director for the Wee Friends Day Care
and Pre-School, and participated in many fundraisers. She also served as a
Middle Township 4-H leader for many years. Shirley and John served as
missionaries teaching Native American children on the Choctaw Indian
Reservation.Services: 1 p.m., Mon. Mar. 14, 2016 at Danville Friends, with
visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial: Mill Creek Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of almost 60 years, John; children, Carolyn
(Dan) Robinson - Zionsville, Lucinda (Jon) Dale - North Salem, Sally (Tim)
Basford - Centerville, IN; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and sisters,
Jill (Max) Poynter - Danville, and Marilyn (Harold) Clarey - Sellersburg,
IN.
