The Girdley Home

the Girdley home

per Jacqueline Girdley:  Alexander Waggoner Girdley built the front part of the family home in 1858, which was the year he married Jane Sargent.  It was a log house with a tin roof.  As the family grew to include seven children, he built two additional rooms on the back side.  In 1927, I was the last child to be born in this house.  The photo was taken in 1939 - shortly before my grandparents (Alexander Bradford Girdley and Julia Ann (Scott) Girdley moved out.  The home was located on what is now the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.
