Miscellaneous Information

1) From service and pension records that we viewed in the National Archives:
Alexander was a private in Co. G, 22nd Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.  He was drafted on 21 Sept 1864 at Keck's Church, Indiana, and was discharged 05 Jul 1865 at Louisville, KY.  He is listed as 6' and 145 pounds.  His pension mentions the following problems: rheumatism, chronic diarrhea, piles, liver and stomach disease .  He died 19 Apr 1889.  We also have approximately 20 pages of various documents and records that were in his pension file.  If you need any of them, e-mail us.

2) We have a copy of the marriage license of Alexander Waggoner Girdley and Jane Sargent.

3) Wife of Alexander Waggoner Girdley: Jane Sargent - born 11 Aug 1837 Martin Co, IN; see photos below; died 17 Mar 1922 Martin Co, IN; buried Old Salem Cemetery, Martin Co, IN; tombstone photo (see below); daughter of Elisha Sargent and Savina Waggoner.

4) We have a photo of the log home Alexander built in 1858.

5) Alexander's cause of death: tuberculosis.
