Miscellaneous Information | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1) Wife of Pleasant E Bowman: Sarah "Sally" Raser - born 16 Nov 1810 TN; died 08 Mar 1872; buried Burns City Cemetery, Burns City, Martin, IN (tombstone photo below); daughter of John Raser and Hannah ____. 2) We have copies of 1838 and 1840 land patents belonging to Pleasant. 3) * In May of 1842, there were court documents filed that stated the following: Elizabeth and Mary Ann Bowman - infant daughters of Septima Bowman (deceased) - were placed into the guardianship of Septima's brother, Pleasant, and family. There are also documents indicating the transfer of land from Septima to Pleasant. We have not concluded at this time whether that was for the daughters at a later time, or if it was given to Pleasant for taking guardianship of the children. We also wonder why the children were placed with the Pleasant Bowman family, since Septima's widow (Mary Ann) was still living. 4) Pleasant was mentioned in the biography of his grandson, Willard Bowman. 5) Pleasant Bowman, along with John Williams and Henry Holt, was instrumental in the formation of the Burns City Christian Church. In 1845, Christian Keck deeded them a tract of 1/2 acre of land for a church. See photos of church as it appeared in 1934, and as it appeared in 2005. 6) We have an accounting of the final settlement of personal property for Pleasant. |
